Today's Passage: Matthew 11

I found it interesting that John asked Jesus if he was the Son of God?  Jesus, did not directly answer this question.  He has his people report what they have seen to John so that John might know the answer.

In verse 20 it seems that Jesus is frustrated that some people have seen what he has done and still don't believe.

verses 28-30 read "come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

These three verses are so comforting to me.  It tells me if I let Jesus take control of my life.  I will receive rest, peace and comfort.

I love 28 - 30 as well. To me, it's a rather unexpected offer. A yoke is not something I would offer to someone if I were trying to get one to follow me. It's kind of like the modern day equivalent of offering handcuffs to a stranger. As odd as I have made it to be, that's what makes it special to me. Jesus sets the stage for the offer making it clear that he will be master and teacher. As long as we put him in such a position, we'll be ok.
I might be taking it a bit to far, as I don't know if the modern version of a yoke is similar to that of the middle eastern version 2000 years ago (or how accurately "yoke" translates to Aramaic) . With that said, a yoke ties oxen together much like we are bound to our fellow Christians. This implies that we won't be alone, we'll be naturally inclined to be pulling in the same direction and trying to achieve common goals.
