Today's Passage: Amos 4-6
We have read many accounts of God's anger with the Israelites over the past few months, but the story of Amos 4 is a little different. God doesn't just lament their lack of repentance, but He goes into detail to show them He had been trying to get their attention for some time. He didn't want it to come to their destruction (which it did), but He put a series of roadblocks in their way...hoping all the time that they would see the error of their ways and repent from their actions.
Look at the list: famine, hunger, drought, insects, mildewed crops, plagues, political upheaval. None of it got their attention enough to repent! You would think one of those, let alone all of them, would have done the trick, but the people refused to acknowledge God.
On this last day of 2010, ask yourself a very serious question: Is God trying to get your attention? Are there things you know He wants you to change, but you continue to be set in the ways of sin? If so, today is the day to hear His voice and turn back to Him...He's waiting with open arms to receive you!
