BELIEFS

1) The Bible

The 66 books of the Bible were written by human authors and fully inspired by God. Because it is fully inspired by God it is truth without any mixture of error. The Bible is our authority for all belief and practice (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

2) There is one God

There is one God who exists eternally in three persons – the Father, the Son [Jesus Christ], and the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all things. He is eternal, perfect, all powerful, all knowing, and present everywhere at all times. (Deuteronomy 6:4; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

3) Jesus Christ

Jesus is both Son of God and God the Son. He was born of a virgin. He lived a sinless and perfect life. He was crucified to pay for the sins of the world; He was raised from the dead and lives eternally. True life is found in Christ alone. (Acts 4:12; 1 Corinthians 15:3).

4) The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. Scripture calls him a helper, and counselor. He convicts of sin and empowers believers to live out their faith. He lives within every Christian from the moment of salvation. (John 14:16-17; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:1 )

5) Man

Man was created in the image of God. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. He was created with the capacity for fellowship with God, but because of sin, man has been separated from God in desperate need of God’s redemption and forgiveness. (Romans 5:12; Ephesians 1:7).

6) God’s gift of Salvation

God’s gift of salvation restores mankind’s fellowship with God. God offers the gift of salvation to all who trust in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Salvation is received by God’s grace alone through faith in Christ alone – not by man’s effort or good works. (Ephesians 2:8-10; James 2:14; Act 4:12)

7) The Church

The church consists of all who have trusted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. God intends that local churches be established throughout the world for the purpose of making disciples of Jesus Christ and bring glory to God through all of its efforts. (Matthew 16:16-18)

8) The Ordinances

The ordinances of the Church are baptism and the Lord’s Supper-

Baptism: Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and is your public declaration that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Baptism does not save you, but shows the world that you have already been saved. And while baptism is not required for salvation, it is a biblical command and demonstrates your love and obedience to Christ. Bear Creek practices what is called “believers baptism by immersion.” Those being baptized must first “Believe.” Meaning, they have put their trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We practice full immersion baptism in an effort to model Jesus’ own baptism as closely as possible. (Matthew 28:19-20; Matthew 3:16; Luke 3:21-22; John 3:23; Acts 2:14, 8:13, 8:35-39, 16:30-33; Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12).

Lord’s Supper: The Lord’s Supper was instituted by our Lord as a memorial of His blood that was shed for us and His body that was broken for us. Bear Creek partakes of the Lord’s Supper frequently. (Matthew 26:26-29; Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)

9) The Return of Jesus Christ

The return of Jesus is imminent. When Jesus comes again, the Bible tells us He will gather His own (all Christians) to Himself. Every Christian should live with the expectation that Jesus could return at any time. (2 Peter 3:10-13)

10) The Judgment of God-

All who have persisted in rejecting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will be eternally separated from God on the day of judgement and spend eternity in a place the Bible calls Hell. All who have received God’s gift of salvation will live eternally in fellowship with God in a place the Bible calls, “the new heavens and the new earth.” (Matthew 25:31-46; John 5:27-28; Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3:12-13; Luke 16:22; Hebrews 12:23)
